BCAK Continuing Education Standards Program
What is the Continuing Education Standards Program (CESP)?

As a part of the application process for membership as a “Practicing Member” of the BACK, you agreed to meet the ongoing continuing education requirements of the association as a condition of membership and eligibility for membership renewal. Participating in the CESP is mandatory for all Practicing Members.

The CESP is designed to ensure that Practicing Members keep informed about the latest developments in the four main domains of Kinesiology practice (Health and Fitness, Ergonomics, Disability Management and Clinical).

How many credits are required each year?

Practicing Members are required to obtain a minimum 20 continuing education credits per year (~20 contact hours). The BCAK's credit categories encourage our members to seek education opportunities from a variety of sources.

The CESP Policies and Procedures document indicates that all courses taken prior to acceptance as a Practicing Member are not eligible for inclusion in the CE requirements of the BCAK. However, for new Practicing Members who join part way through the membership year (January 1 - December 31), the BCAK will be prorated the number of CE credits required for membership renewal on a three month (quarterly) basis. For example if you registered in June, you will be required to submit 10 CECs with your renewal. This equates to 5 credits per quarter or 3 month period.

What if I am on parental leave?

The CESP Policies and Procedures document indicates that Practicing Members who take parental leave are exempt from the CESP for a period of up to 1 year, as it relates to meeting the CE requirements for membership renewal. Parental leave allowances provide for a one-year dormant period starting when parental leave begins at work. Proof must be submitted to the BCAK office at the beginning of the leave requested.

What courses & activities are eligible to meet the requirements of the CESP?

There are a variety of ways that a Practicing Member can receive credits. The BCAK does not require pre-approval of courses however credit allocations must be based on the credit categories form. All courses that are directly applicable to your or any other field of work within the scope of Kinesiology will be accepted for credit.

When & How do I submit my CE credits for Membership Renewal?

Achieving the minimum required CE credits is a condition of Practicing Membership renewal. The Membership renewal package will contain a BCAK CEC Tracking form which has to be completed and submitted along with all the other information required for renewal.

Membership renewal information for the coming membership year (January 1 - December 31) are mailed to Practicing Members by November 30th of each year.

How does the BCAK ensure compliance to the CESP?

Complying with the CESP is on the honour system. As professionals it is expected that members will strive to improve their skills and knowledge related to the Profession of Kinesiology. The BCAK may audit Practicing Members to ensure compliance.

Who do I contact with my questions?
